Biography of Laurence Tate

Laurence Tate is an American film and television producer, director, and actor. He was born on September 8, 1975, in Chicago, Illinois. When he was nine years old, Laurence's family moved to California. Upon arrival, his parents, Peggy and Larry Tate, insisted that he and his older brothers, Larron and Lamord, attend drama classes at the local cultural center. At first, the brothers didn't take their parents' desire to turn them into actors seriously until their classmate, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, became famous after appearing in the comedy series "The Cosby Show." After that, the boys realized that they too could become famous if they put in the effort and were patient.

The Tate brothers started taking their studies at the center seriously and actively participated in auditions. Eventually, they landed small roles in various TV series, and in 1985, Laurence made his debut in an episode of "The Twilight Zone." After minor roles in television shows like "21 Jump Street," "The Wonder Years," and the TV movie "The Women of Brewster Place," Laurence received an invitation to a recurring role as Willie Fuffner in the family comedy series "Family Matters" in 1989.

After his television roles, in late 1992, Laurence played the role of Kevin, a troubled teenager, in the feature film "Menace II Society," produced by the Hughes brothers. His performance impressed the Hughes brothers so much that they invited him to join their new film, "Dead Presidents," in 1995. Starting in 1997, Laurence Tate almost entirely focused on starring in feature films, with only two appearances in TV series "Producer" in 2006 and "Save Me" in 2004.
