Early Life and Career
Larry Lloyd was born in Bristol, England. He began his professional football career with Bristol City, a third division club, before joining Liverpool in 1969 for a fee of £50,000.
Liverpool Success
Lloyd became a regular starter for Liverpool in the 1970-71 season. He played a key role in the team's successes during that era, winning the First Division title, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Cup.
Transfer to Coventry City
In 1974, Lloyd left Liverpool for Coventry City in a £240,000 transfer. He spent two and a half seasons with Coventry before being signed by Nottingham Forest in 1976 for £60,000.
Nottingham Forest Dominance
Lloyd was an integral part of the Nottingham Forest team that dominated English and European football in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He helped the club win the Anglo-Scottish Cup, the First Division title, two League Cups, and two European Cups.
International Career
Lloyd earned several caps for the England under-23 team. In 1971, he made his senior debut for England in a 0-0 draw against Wales. He also represented England in a European Championship qualifier against Switzerland the same year.
Coaching Career
After retiring from playing in 1981, Lloyd became player-manager of Wigan Athletic. He led the club to promotion to the Third Division in 1982. From 1983 to 1984, he served as manager of Notts County, the oldest professional football club in the world.
