Professional Career
Born in Paris to a prominent Gabonese family, Faustine Boukoubi began her career as a translator at the African Development Bank in 1978. She rapidly rose through the ranks, becoming an advisor to the President of Gabon in 1984 and Deputy Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers in 1987.
Political Appointments
From 1989 to 1995, Boukoubi served as personal secretary to President Bongo Ondimba. She was also appointed to various high-level positions within the African Development Bank, representing Gabon and several other African nations. In 2006, she was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Ministerial Roles
Boukoubi's ministerial experience included serving as Minister of Communications, Post, Telecommunications, and New Technologies from 2007 to 2008. She was then appointed the first female Minister of Foreign Affairs of Gabon in 2008, a position she held until her reappointment as Minister of Communications.
Administrative and Diplomatic Roles
Later, Boukoubi served as Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers of Gabon. In 2014, she was elected Ombudsman of the Republic, becoming the first woman to hold this position.
Political Affiliation and Views
Boukoubi is a member of the conservative Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG). She held a position in the party's Politburo until her election as Ombudsman.
