Early Life

Lauren Oliver was born into a family of writers in Queens, New York. As a child, she was an avid reader and writer, often creating her own stories to continue the adventures of her favorite characters.

Education and Career

Oliver pursued her passion for storytelling by majoring in Philosophy and Literature at the University of Chicago. She went on to earn an MFA in Creative Writing from New York University.

Before dedicating herself to writing full-time, Oliver worked at the youth imprint Razorbill of Penguin Books, where she began writing her debut novel, "Before I Fall." In 2009, she left her job to focus solely on her writing career.

Novels

Oliver's first novel, "Before I Fall," was published in 2010. It tells the story of Sam, a teenager who relives the last day of her life seven times, discovering new insights and secrets about her death.

The novel was adapted into a film starring Zoey Deutch in 2017. Oliver's second novel, "Delirium," is the first book in a dystopian trilogy. It follows Lena, a young girl living in a society where love has been eradicated.

Oliver also wrote several novellas set in the "Delirium" universe: "Hana," "Annabel," and "Raven." She also published two middle-grade novels, "Liesl & Po" and "Spindlers."

"Panic" and Beyond

In 2014, Oliver released "Panic," a contemporary young adult novel about a group of high school graduates who compete in a series of dangerous challenges for a large sum of money. The novel was adapted into a television series on Amazon Prime Video, with Oliver serving as showrunner.
