Lauren Tsai was born on February 11, 1998, in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Her father is of Chinese descent and her mother is of European descent. Tsai is the youngest of three sisters and a niece of restaurateur Ming Tsai. When she was seven, her family relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii. Later, she returned to Massachusetts to attend boarding school. At age eleven, Tsai first visited Japan and during her sophomore year at Pacific Buddhist Academy spent six weeks in Hiroshima for educational purposes.

<h2> Modeling Career </h2>

In 2014, Tsai began modeling in Japan under the pseudonym Lala. In November 2016, she auditioned for the reality TV show Terrace House: Aloha State, which aired on Fuji TV and Netflix. After Terrace House, Tsai continued modeling and pursuing creative endeavors. As a model, she graced magazines, advertisements, catalogs, and walked runways in both Japan and Hawaii. In 2017, she starred in a Japanese cooking show.

In 2018, Tsai illustrated a variant cover for the first issue of the West Coast Avengers comic book, and in 2019, a variant cover for Captain Marvel No. 1. She collaborated with Marc Jacobs on jewelry and accessories.

<h2> Acting Career </h2>

In January 2019, Tsai joined the cast of the FX television series Legion for its third season. She played a mutant named Switch with time-bending abilities. Following Legion, she starred in Amy Poehler's film Moxie, which premiered on Netflix in 2020.

Tsai is a vegan.
