Early Life and Art Training

Lawrence Atkinson, a multifaceted English artist, poet, and musician, embarked on his artistic journey in Paris, where he initially pursued musical composition. Upon returning to London, however, he wholeheartedly embraced painting, specializing in landscapes that bore the distinct influence of Matisse and the Fauves. Unfortunately, most of his works from this period have been lost.

Transition to Vorticism

Atkinson's artistic trajectory took a drastic turn in 1914, when he joined forces with Percy Wyndham Lewis, David Bomberg, and Ezra Pound to establish Vorticism, a vibrant art movement akin to French Cubism and Italian Futurism. From this point forward, Atkinson's paintings exhibited a striking resemblance to Lewis's own canvases.

Literary Pursuits

Beyond his accomplishments in painting and music, Atkinson also dabbled in poetry, penning modernist verses that captured the zeitgeist of the era. His literary contributions further solidified his reputation as a versatile and experimental artist.
