Early Career and Roma Debut
Leandro Greco, an Italian footballer, emerged from the youth ranks of AS Roma. In 2003, he was called up to the senior team, but his debut was delayed. In August 2003, he joined Serie D club Astrea on loan, making 17 appearances and scoring once.
Upon his return to Roma, Greco finally made his Serie A debut on May 8, 2005, in a 2-1 victory over Parma. However, his progress was abruptly halted by a serious heart arrhythmia, sidelining him for five months and forcing him to decline a call-up to Italy's youth team.
Loans and Return to Rome
In 2006, Greco was sent on loan to Serie B side Hellas Verona, where he became a regular starter. Returning briefly to Roma, he was again loaned out in January 2009, this time to Pisa, where he featured in nine matches. Summer 2009 saw Greco back at Roma.
Piacenza Loan and Roma Success
January 2010 marked another loan move for Greco, this time to Piacenza. He established himself as a key player, making 22 appearances. Upon his final return to Roma, Greco played his first match as a substitute in the Rome derby against Lazio, which his team won 2-0.
"It's been the most beautiful week of my career. I will never forget it," said Greco after the game. "I will celebrate the derby win like a true Romanista. Roma are growing as a team. I think we fully deserved this victory over Lazio."
