Early Life and Education
Born on June 18, 1949, in Warsaw, Lech Kaczyński graduated with law degrees from the University of Warsaw and the University of Gdańsk.

Academic Career
From 1971 to 1997, Kaczyński served as a research assistant at the University of Gdańsk.

Political Activism
In 1977, Kaczyński became politically active by joining the Workers' Defense Committee, a precursor to the Solidarity trade union. He rose through the ranks, becoming a delegate to the Solidarity Congress in 1980 and actively participating in the Gdańsk shipyard strikes that year.

Solidarity Leadership
In the 1980s, Kaczyński held various leadership positions within Solidarity, including head of a commission and representative in Gdańsk. In 1988, he became secretary of the National Commission, and in 1989, a member of its presidium.

Post-Communism
After the fall of communism, Kaczyński entered politics by winning a seat in the Senate in 1989 and the Sejm in 1991. He served as head of the National Security Bureau in the President's Office from 1991 to 1992 and led the Central Audit Commission from 1992 to 1995.

Justice Minister
In 2000-2001, Kaczyński held the post of Minister of Justice in Jerzy Buzek's government.
Law and Justice Party
In 2001, he co-founded the Law and Justice party (PiS) with his brother Jarosław and became its chairman. Jarosław succeeded him in 2003.
Mayor of Warsaw
From 2002 to 2005, Kaczyński served as mayor of Warsaw.Presidential Election
In 2005, Kaczyński announced his candidacy for President of Poland. Supported by PiS, he won the election.
Interests and Personal Life
Kaczyński has a keen interest in history and philosophy. He is married and has a daughter.
