Childhood and Early Life

Born in June 1926, Leonid Golikov lived in the village of Lukino, near the town of Staraya Russa. His father's disability forced him to work at a plywood factory in the neighboring town of Parfino at a tender age.

The Partisan's Journey

With the German occupation of Parfino in 1941, Golikov joined the Soviet partisan brigade formed by the Leningrad headquarters. Initially tasked with menial tasks, he proved his mettle and was entrusted with missions such as reconnaissance, bridge demolition, and escorting food supplies to besieged Leningrad.

Heroic Deeds

In the summer of 1942, Golikov distinguished himself in two operations and was awarded the Medal "For Courage." He killed three German soldiers and captured a briefcase of secret documents belonging to General Richard von Wirtz, whose fate remains a mystery.

Tragic End

Leonid Golikov's life came to an end in January 1943 during a raid on the village of Ostraya Luka. He was only 16 years old. On April 2, 1944, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

Legacy

Golikov's story has been immortalized through books, films, and monuments. The first account of his exploits was written by Anatoly Vakhov in "Nine Fearless," which included a genuine photograph of the young partisan. However, subsequent publications featured a different image, showing Golikov as an older and more mature youth. This discrepancy stemmed from a lack of photographs, leading to a female relative being depicted as the hero.

Despite inaccuracies and embellishments, Leonid Golikov remains a symbol of the bravery and sacrifice of young people who fought against fascism during the Great Patriotic War. His memory continues to inspire generations and his name is etched in the annals of Soviet history as a true hero.
