Early Career and Journey to England
Bertos began his football journey with Wellington Olympic before embarking on an adventure to England in 2000, joining the Barnsley F.C. academy. Although primarily playing for the youth team, he gained valuable experience. He later moved to Rochdale F.C. and became a regular in their starting lineup for two seasons.
Career in the Lower Leagues
After leaving Rochdale, Bertos bounced around several lower-division English clubs, spending brief periods at teams such as Cambridge United, Wrexham, Darlington, and Doncaster Rovers. This experience provided him with opportunities to showcase his abilities and hone his skills.
Return to Oceania and Wellington Phoenix
In 2006, Bertos returned to Oceania and played for Perth Glory in the Australian A-League for two seasons. In 2008, he rejoined his hometown club, the Wellington Phoenix, where he has remained to this day, becoming an integral part of the team.

Bertos's international debut came on 13 October 2003, against Iran. Since then, he has amassed 34 caps for New Zealand, showcasing his talent and contributing to the team's success.
