Leonid Komarov
Leonid Komarov is a Finnish ice hockey player of Russian descent who currently plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League (NHL). He also represents Finland internationally.
Early Life and Career
Komarov was born in Narva, Estonia, to a Russian father and an Estonian mother. His family moved to Finland when he was a child, settling in the town of Nykarleby. His father played for second-division teams in Finland, and the family was granted permanent residency in Finland due to Alexander's Karelian ethnicity. Komarov played for youth teams until 2005.
In 2006, Komarov won a silver medal with Ässät in the SM-Liiga. He then played for Pelicans from 2006 to 2009.
NHL Draft and Professional Career
Komarov was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, 180th overall. He played for Dinamo Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) from 2009 to 2012, winning the Russian Championship and the Gagarin Cup in 2012.
International Career
Komarov represented Finland at the World Junior Championships in 2006 and 2007, captaining the team in 2007. He made his debut for the Finnish national team in 2010 and helped them win the gold medal at the 2011 World Championships. He was named to the KHL All-Star Game in 2011.
