Leandro Campana: Ecuadorian Football Star
Leandro Campana is an Ecuadorian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Major League Soccer club Inter Miami and the Ecuador national team. Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Campana began his career in the youth academy of Barcelona SC in 2016.
Professional Career
On January 21, 2020, Campana joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League. However, he was loaned out to Famalicão in the Portuguese Primeira Liga for the 2020/21 season. In July 2021, he went on loan to Grasshopper Club Zürich in the Swiss Super League.
Following a strong loan spell with Grasshopper, Campana was sent on a season-long loan to Inter Miami in Major League Soccer on January 20, 2022. He made his MLS debut on February 26, 2022, against Chicago Fire. On March 6, 2022, he scored his first goal for Inter Miami against Austin FC. On April 9, 2022, Campana scored a hat-trick against New England Revolution, earning him the MLS Player of the Week award.
On January 20, 2023, Inter Miami exercised their purchase option and signed Campana permanently from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He agreed to a contract through the 2025 season with an option for 2026 as a Young Designated Player.
International Career
Campana represented Ecuador at the 2019 South American U-20 Championship, where his team emerged victorious. He was the tournament's top goalscorer with six goals. In March 2019, at the age of 18, Campana made his debut for the Ecuador senior national team. He was part of the squad for the 2021 Copa América.
