Early Life and Education
Serhii Mykhailovych Kuryliuk was born on July 29, 1935, in the village of Nova Hreblya in Ukraine. His childhood was steeped in art, with his father sketching landscapes and his mother embroidering traditional Ukrainian garments. This artistic environment sparked Kuryliuk's passion for the arts.
After graduating from secondary school, Kuryliuk pursued his artistic education at the Taras Shevchenko State Art School in Kyiv. Subsequently, he enrolled in the Kyiv Art Institute (now the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture) and graduated in 1965, having studied under renowned artists such as Karpo Dymyanovych Trokhymenko, Tetyana Nylivna Yablonska, and Anatoliy Oleksandrovych Plamenetsky.
Teaching and Artistic Career
Upon completing his studies, Kuryliuk was appointed as an art instructor at the Khmelnytsky Pedagogical College at the invitation of its rector. In 1968, he joined the Khmelnytsky Technological Institute of Consumer Services as an assistant professor in the Department of Engineering Graphics.
In 1969, Kuryliuk began working at the Khmelnytsky Art and Production Workshops of the USSR Art Foundation. He played an active role in fostering the development of fine arts in the Podillia region, serving as a member and later as chairman of the Art Council.
Artistic Recognition and Legacy
From 1977 to 1985, Kuryliuk held the position of chief artist at the Khmelnytsky Art and Production Workshops of the USSR Art Foundation. In 1983, he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. In 2008, he was bestowed the prestigious title of Honored Artist of Ukraine in recognition of his significant contributions to the arts.
