Levani Gvazava: Georgian and Russian Football Star
Levani Gvazava is a Georgian and Russian footballer who played as a midfielder throughout his professional career.
Early Career and Success in Moldova
Gvazava began his football journey with the Olimpia Khobi academy. In 1996, he made his professional debut for the first team, where he spent four years, recording 82 appearances and scoring eight goals. In 2000, he moved to Moldavian club Zimbru Chisinau. With Zimbru, he won the Moldovan Championship in 1999/00 and the Moldovan Cup in 2002/03. He also finished as a runner-up twice in the Moldovan Championship (2000/01 and 2002/03).
Stints in Russia and Georgia
In 2004, Gvazava made the switch to Russia, joining Alania Vladikavkaz. He played for two seasons in the Russian Premier League, making 23 appearances and scoring one goal. After his stint in Russia, he returned to Georgia for a brief period with Dinamo Batumi.
Time with Spartacus Nalchik and Luch-Energiya
Before the start of the 2006 season, Gvazava joined Russian Premier League newcomer Spartacus Nalchik. He made 22 appearances for the club, scoring one goal. In the summer of 2007, he moved to another RPL side, Luch-Energiya Vladivostok. He spent one and a half years with Luch-Energiya, making 36 appearances and scoring four goals.
Grozny Years with Terek
In 2008, Gvazava became a member of FC Terek Grozny. He played in 60 matches for the club over three seasons, scoring twice. However, he left the team at the end of the 2011/12 season due to disagreements with head coach Stanislav Cherchesov.
Later Career and International Involvement
Gvazava joined FC Khimki in August 2012 before having his contract terminated by mutual consent in December. After a year-long break, he signed with Uzbekistani club Neftchi Fergana in 2014. He later returned to Russia with Anzhi Makhachkala, and in 2017, joined Ararat-2 Moscow in the third division.
Gvazava represented Georgia at the youth level, making nine appearances and scoring two goals. He was called up to the senior team in 2010 but declined the invitation.
