Early Life and Career at Genk
Born in Bree, Belgium, Courtois began his football journey at his hometown club Bilzerse Waltwilder in 1997. At eight, he joined K.R.C. Genk, initially as a left-back before transitioning to the goalkeeper position.
2008-2009 Season
Courtois made his Genk debut against K.A.A. Gent on April 17, 2009, at just 16 years of age. A goalkeeper crisis within the team paved the way for his early appearance.

Coach Francky Vercauteren selected Courtois as the first-choice goalkeeper at the start of the 2010/11 campaign. Transfer to Chelsea F.C. and Loan to Atlético Madrid
On July 14, 2011, Genk and Chelsea reached an agreement to transfer Courtois. He signed a five-year contract with the Blues for a fee of £5 million. However, he was immediately sent on loan to Atlético Madrid in La Liga.
At Atlético Madrid
