Biography of Lewis Cleale
Lewis Cleale is an American theater actor and singer, known for his performances on Broadway. He was born in Houlton, Maine and attended the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, where he was a distinguished graduate.
Early Career
Cleale first gained recognition during a European tour of the musical "Oklahoma!" It was during this tour that he caught the attention of Mary Rodgers, who recommended him for the production of "State Fair." In 1995, Cleale made his Broadway debut in "Swinging on a Star," which earned him a Drama Desk Award nomination.
Broadway Success
Following his debut, Cleale appeared in several other notable Broadway productions. In 1996, he starred in "Once Upon a Mattress," and in 2005, he performed in Michel Legrand's musical "Amour." In 2006, Cleale joined the cast of "Spamalot." He also had roles in the popular shows "Love New York" and "Call Me Madam."
Later Career
From September 2008 to March 2009, Cleale was involved in the off-Broadway production of "The Fantasticks" at the Jerry Orbach Theater. He later left the show to participate in "Sondheim on Sondheim." One of his most recent acting credits includes "The Book of Mormon" in 2011, where he played various roles. Cleale also portrayed John Adams in the musical "1776" at the Ford's Theatre.

Cleale has made several official recordings, including "Infinite Joy" by William Finn and "Myths and Hymns" by Adam Guettel. He has also been featured in the compilation album "Great Musicals" by RCA Victor.
