Biography of Lili Ivanova

Lili Ivanova is a Bulgarian pop singer and People's Artist of Bulgaria. She was born on April 24, 1939 in the city of Kubrat. Her father, Ivan Petrov Damyanov, worked as a civil servant in the city hall, while her mother, Maria Petrova Damyanova, was a housewife who occasionally worked as a waitress. Lili's baptismal certificate recorded her name as Liliana Ivanova Petrova, in memory of her deceased sister.

After starting her professional career, Lili adopted her current stage name and became known both in Bulgaria and worldwide. She completed her education at a medical school in Varna in 1959, but worked as a nurse for only one year. Her talent was first discovered in a workers' choir. She gained popularity as a singer with the song "On Saturday Evening" by renowned composer Yosif Tsankov (1964).

In 1963, her first album was released in Romania, and she received her first international prize, the "Golden Key," in 1966 in Bratislava for performing a song by Bulgarian composer Angel Zabersky called "Adagio." This was followed by numerous victories at other international competitions, and Lili Ivanova was able to win dozens of international awards around the world.

Over her nearly 50-year career, Lili Ivanova has recorded over 600 songs in 35 albums, many of which have become Golden Records in Europe. In 1997, she was nominated by the International Women's Association as one of the most popular women of the 20th century, and in 1998, Lili Ivanova received the highest order from the St. Nicholas Miracle Foundation (Russia).

On May 11, 2006, she was honored with a star on the Bulgarian Alley of Fame in Sofia. In April 2009, her autobiographical book "The Truth" was published under the editorship of M. Karbovski, in which she describes her life journey from childhood to her triumphant performance at the Paris Olympia in January 2009. The publication of the book caused mixed reactions in Bulgaria, as many believe that some facts do not correspond to reality and that the book has a scandalous nature.
