Biography of Lilia Sandulesa
Lilia Sandulesa is a Ukrainian pop singer who recently celebrated her jubilee. She is a People's Artist of Ukraine and was a star of the 80s music scene. She playfully asked not to be questioned about her age, saying, "Let men think that I am just a little over forty." However, she was more than willing to talk about the men she loved and how she is currently living and performing.
From Kiev to Chernivtsi
Lilia used to live in Kiev, as most stars do, but she has since sold her apartment and moved to Chernivtsi. The money from the sale was invested in the construction of a three-story house in Chernivtsi, where her son Ivan and his wife now reside. Lilia frequently travels from city to city for her performances. In her hometown of Novoselitsa, near her native village of Marshintsy (also the birthplace of Sofia Rotaru), Lilia started organizing an international festival for young performers called "From Chernivtsi to Prut." She serves as the head of the jury and hopes to hold the second edition of the festival soon.
Early Marriage and Musical Career
Lilia married at the young age of 16 and had a son named Ivan. She started her musical career working at the Chernivtsi Philharmonic and soon became known throughout Ukraine. At that time, an artist's popularity was often determined by whether they were invited to perform at government concerts. Lilia revealed that she performed at a government concert in Kiev and sang for delegates at a congress in Moscow, where she was invited by famous Russian composers Alexandra Pakhmutova and Nikolai Dobronravov. After these performances, she received a call from Kiev, demanding her documents for the title of "Merited Artist." Despite her young age, she believed that she sang well compared to some of the other established singers of the time.
A Beautiful Romance
There is a photo on the Internet showing Lilia and Alexander Serov, both young and happy, strolling through Chernivtsi. It is rumored that they had a romantic relationship. Lilia confirmed the rumor, describing their love as something that never repeated in her life. She said it was a beautiful feeling, and they remained friends even after their relationship ended. However, they faced many "well-wishers" who did not want them to be together, resulting in numerous rumors and ultimately leading to the end of their relationship. The romance started in Chernivtsi but ended in Lutsk, where they both moved to work at the Philharmonic.
Family and Collaborations
Lilia's husband, Ivo Bobul, was not only her partner in life but also on stage. Initially, he joined her as a duet partner, and their collaboration eventually turned into a family. Lilia brought Ivo to all the concerts she was invited to, and his beautiful voice played a crucial role in their success.
Celebrating her Jubilee
Initially, Lilia had no plans to celebrate her jubilee, but many of her friends and colleagues convinced her to do so. They told her they would simply come to congratulate her, and that's exactly what happened. They gathered in a cozy restaurant and spent the evening together. Lilia expressed her desire to have a concert for her fans in the spring, as they have been with her throughout the years and have never made her fear competition.
Lilia Sandulesa sings in Ukrainian, Russian, and Moldovan languages. Some of her most famous songs include "Bili Narcisi," "Desyat Tisyach Nochey," "Propadi Ty Propadom," "Honcharnyy Kruh," and "Nesu Sviy Khrest."
