Nek, the Italian artist with incredible blue eyes, piercing gaze, and a tattoo of a sun with blue eyes symbolizing energy, is a renowned pop singer. Growing up in a small town, Nek developed a passion for music at a young age. At just 4 years old, he received his first drum set as a gift, and at 7 years old, he acquired an acoustic guitar. Influenced by bands like U2, Yes, Lenny Kravitz, and The Police, Nek began experimenting with playing the bass.
At the age of 11, Nek formed a duo called Winchester with his friend. They made their debut in 1985, performing in small clubs. In 1989, Nek formed the group White Lady, which gained recognition for their talent and captivated fans with their music. However, Nek was still searching for ways to express his individuality.
In May 1991, Nek adopted the stage name "Nek" and secured the second place at the Castrocaro Festival in Italy. The choice of his pseudonym was explained by Nek himself, who found his real name, Filippo, inconvenient for the stage. In 1992, Nek released his first album, self-titled "Nek." The following year, he participated in the Sanremo Festival and secured the third place in the category of "Best New Artist" with his song "In Te." Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, Nek remained determined and released the album "In Te."
In the summer of 1994, Nek recorded his third album, "Colore Umano" and secured the second place at the Festival Italiano with the song "Angeli Nel Ghetto." This marked his recognition in Europe, positioning him as the best young Italian artist.
In 1996, Nek released the album "Lei, Gli Amici È Tutto Il Resto" ("She, Friends, and Everything Else"), which brought him enormous success. The album's notable feature was its diary-like lyrics, reflecting the experiences of a young man. Nek's success did not go unnoticed, and he signed a contract with WEA Records.
In 1997, Nek participated once again in the Sanremo Festival, where he presented his most successful song, "Laura Non C'e" ("Laura is Not Here"). This single propelled the album "Lei, Gli Amici È Tutto Il Resto" to platinum status six times over, selling more than 600,000 copies. Nek embarked on a European tour, and the album sold over 1,300,000 copies across Europe.
In 1998, Nek released his next album, "In Due," which surpassed the success of his previous work. In 1999, he was nominated for "Best New International Artist" at the Echo Awards, the German equivalent of the Grammy Awards.
On June 9, 2000, Nek released the album "La Vita È" ("Life is..."), which became the most successful album of his career. Notably, the album featured creative collaboration with renowned conductor Nick Ingman, who led the London Session Orchestra. Ingman recorded parts for Nek's album at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. The album's first single, "Ci Sei Tu," had a music video directed by Ian Russell. The album's second single, "La Vita È," followed, along with other songs. Nek released another album the following year, but it did not achieve the same level of success as his previous works. One of the most notable tracks from this album was a duet with Laura Pausini titled "Sei Solo Tu" ("It's Only You").
