Early Life and Education
Maja Fallot-Mlekuž was born on 30 October 1962, in Koper, Slovenia. In 1997, she graduated from the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Law and earned an LLM degree from the same institution in 2012.
Professional Career in Law Enforcement
Fallot-Mlekuž began her career in 1981 at the Koper Police Administration. She held various leadership positions, including head of the Civil Status and Public Order Department and the General Internal Affairs Department. From 1999 to 2000, she worked as an intern at the Supreme Court of Slovenia.
Public Administration and Government Service
In 2004, Fallot-Mlekuž joined the Ministry of Public Administration, where she specialized in administrative affairs and e-administration. She served as head of Koper's administration from 2005 to 2014.
Parliamentary Career
In 2014, Fallot-Mlekuž was elected to the Slovenian National Assembly as a member of the Modern Centre Party (SMC). She served as deputy leader of the SMC parliamentary group.
Government Secretary and Environment Agency Director
On 15 September 2016, Fallot-Mlekuž was appointed Government Secretary in the Cerar government under Public Administration Minister Boris Koprivnikar. In 2018, she became an advisor to the Protector of the Principle of Equality.
From June 2019, Fallot-Mlekuž served as acting director and, from December 2019, as director general of the Environment Agency.
Minister of Justice
On 13 March 2020, Fallot-Mlekuž was appointed Minister of Justice in the third Janša government. She is a member of the SMC and currently serves in that capacity.
