From Reality Star to Living in a Treehouse
Lisa Appleton, a former contestant on the British reality show "Big Brother," has endured a dramatic fall from grace, finding herself homeless and living in a treehouse.
Financial Struggles and Downward Spiral
After the lucrative earnings from "Big Brother" dried up, Appleton turned down a profitable job in web modeling and pursued a career in sales. However, the transition proved challenging, and she soon found herself unable to afford rent and resorted to living in a rudimentary treehouse in a field.
A Roof Over Her Head
Despite her circumstances, the 50-year-old Appleton remains optimistic about her future. "I'm in the treehouse because so far it's all I can afford," she said. "I pay the farmer £5 a night for the space, and he's been a wonderful person. He said I could stay as long as I like."
Basic Living Conditions
The treehouse lacks basic amenities like electricity and running water. "It's very basic, but it's a roof over my head at the end of the day," Appleton said. "I'm trying to make it a bit more homely, with pictures and things. But I know it's not forever."
Resilience and Determination
Appleton's financial woes began 18 months ago, and she credited a friend for helping her find a job that allowed her to start over. Despite the challenges, the former "Big Brother" star is proud of how far she has come. She refused to give up, sign burdensome contracts, or take out loans.
Dreams of a Better Future
"I did it to get myself back on track to a more fulfilling life in the near future," Appleton said. "I've got a steady sales job at the moment, and things are going well."
Turning Down Web Modeling
Appleton was offered a substantial income to model on a webcam. While she acknowledged that she could have earned thousands of pounds, she felt it was not the right path for her and believed she deserved more. She aspires to have her own television show where she can inspire people to become fit and healthy.
A Fresh Start in Wolverhampton
Appleton's treehouse is situated in Wolverhampton and is devoid of modern conveniences. "I'm back to basics with a clear conscience," she said. "I get myself ready for work every day and I cook all my meals on a barbecue outside."
Emotional Challenges
"I'm not ashamed to say the last 18 months have been tough emotionally because I lost my dad and my daughter and my dog emigrated to Canada," Appleton admitted.
Hope and optimism
Despite the hardships, Appleton is determined to rise above her challenges. "I'm within 10 minutes of my workplace now, and I'm putting every penny I earn away so I can get back home before winter," she said. "I'm doing all I can to get back on my feet and be happy again. I'm a lot stronger now than I was a few years ago."
