Biography of Liz Mitchell

Liz Mitchell is the lead singer of the group 'Boney M' and also a co-author of some of the band's songs. She was born on the island of Jamaica and moved to England at the age of 11 with her parents who had previously emigrated. Mitchell has been singing since childhood and turned professional in 1969.

Her first acting role was in the Berlin production of the cult musical Hair. Mitchell then participated in several music groups such as Les Humphries Singers and Malcolm's Locks. In 1976, she was invited to join the project of West German producer Frank Farian called Boney M., which gained worldwide fame as a Caribbean quartet with Mitchell as the lead vocalist.

Currently, Mitchell officially owns the rights to perform under the Boney M. brand and continues to tour. She also has her own record label, Dove House Records, on which she releases her solo works. Mitchell has released several albums and a series of singles on DHR.

In 2005, she recorded an album with new versions of Boney M. hits in the Czech Republic. The compositions were performed together with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. In England, Mitchell is actively involved in charity work through her foundation called LET IT BE FOUNDATION, which supports children and teenagers from disadvantaged families. She also spends a significant amount of money supporting educational institutions in several African countries, particularly in Kenya.

In 2007, as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of Boney M., Mitchell performed a live concert in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2009, she and her colleagues showcased a unique live concert at the GCCK "Russia" in Luzhniki. The program consisted of three parts, one of which was performed together with the Russian group The Ivanov Brothers' Sympho-Jazz Band. The concert program was filmed for television and there were plans to release it on DVD.

In 2011, a South Korean film called "Sunny" became a box office hit in South Korea and some other countries. The film's soundtrack included a Boney M. song, which re-entered the local charts and reached number one. As the main performer of the song, Mitchell was invited with her group of musicians and backing vocalists to embark on a concert tour to the major cities of South Korea. The tour took place in the spring of 2012 and was accompanied by a campaign to save North Korean refugees who were being handed over by the Chinese government to the communist regime of North Korea, despite the real threat of death penalty for border violators in their home country. Mitchell joined South Korean human rights activists and carried out several joint actions with them to promote humane treatment of North Korean captives. The campaign garnered significant attention not only in South Korea but also beyond.

In November 2012, the Danish branch of Sony Music released a new Christmas single by Mitchell titled "This Holy Night," which was available for download on the iTunes music store. The song was also featured on the 3CD compilation album "More Christmas" (Sony Music Denmark) and released as a promotional single for radio stations.
