Lloyd Dusburg: A Talented Goalkeeper Cut Short

Lloyd Dusburg began his footballing journey with Elinkwijk, a Dutch club, in 1981. After spending five seasons with Vitesse, he played for Excelsior for one season before joining AFC Ajax in 1987.

Move to Ajax

Ajax acquired Dusburg after losing their second-choice goalkeeper, Fred Grim. He served as a backup to Stanley Menzo, making five appearances for the Amsterdam club.

Invitation to Suriname

Dusburg received an invitation from Sonny Hasnoe to represent a team of Dutch footballers of Surinamese descent, known as the "Elf Kleurlingen," in a tournament against three Surinamese clubs.

Tragic Accident

On June 7, 1989, Suriname Airways Flight PY764 crashed while attempting to land at Paramaribo's Zanderij Airport. All but three of the 187 passengers, including Dusburg, were killed.

Memorial and Legacy

Dusburg's funeral was held on June 22, 1989, and was attended by numerous Ajax players, including Stanley Menzo, Jan Wouters, Aaron Winter, Danny Blind, Bryan Roy, Dennis Bergkamp, Frank de Boer, and Ronald de Boer. The accident remains a tragic loss for the football community, forever etched in the memory of those who knew and respected Lloyd Dusburg.
