Early Life and Education
Loreta Graužinienė was born in Lithuania and graduated from Žežmariai Secondary School in 1981. She went on to pursue higher education at the Lithuanian University of Agriculture (now Aleksandras Stulginskis University) in Kaunas, graduating in 1992 with a degree in Economics.
Professional Career
Graužinienė's professional career began as an accountant in various agricultural organizations. From 1986 to 1992, she worked as an economist at a household services company in Ukmergė. During this time, she also completed the Lithuanian Institute of Accounting and Auditing program and obtained her auditor's license in 1997.
From 1992 to 1994, Graužinienė held chief accountant positions at several agricultural companies. She also taught at the former Ukmergė University of Agriculture from 1994 to 2004.
Concurrently with her teaching career, Graužinienė established her own private accounting firm, providing services such as bookkeeping, financial analysis, and tax consulting. She obtained a license from the Lithuanian Ministry of Finance in 1998 to work as an auditor.
Political Career
Graužinienė's political journey began in 2004 when she was elected to the Seimas (Parliament of Lithuania). She served as a Member of Parliament from 2004 to 2008, 2008 to 2012, and 2012 to 2016. During her tenure, she held various leadership positions, including Chairman of the Labor Party faction in the Seimas.
In 2009, Graužinienė ran for President of Lithuania. She was elected as Chairman of the Labor Party in 2013, but resigned two years later due to the party's poor performance in municipal elections.
Speaker of the Seimas
From October 3, 2013, to November 14, 2016, Graužinienė served as Speaker of the Seimas, the highest-ranking official in the Lithuanian Parliament.
