Biography of Louis Féraud

Louis Féraud, a French fashion designer and artist, once remarked, "Fashion is not created to divide people, it is created to unite. It's a kind of rendezvous of love." In 1950, Féraud founded his own fashion house, "Maison de Couture," which would later be named "Louis Féraud," in Cannes. Four years later, he moved to Paris, the global capital of fashion. Almost immediately, he gained a reputation as a master, thanks to his vivid imagination and talent for creating clothing. He showcased his first "Couture" collection in 1955, which had a staggering success, establishing Louis Féraud as a designer for the Parisian elite. Brigitte Bardot herself, whom Féraud referred to as his muse until the end of his life, exclusively wore his clothing in the mid-50s. His collections were filled with vibrant and geometric details and prints, surpassing the understanding of fashion at the time. In 1958, Féraud presented his first "Haute Couture" collection in Paris, putting him on par with the world-renowned Christian Dior and Hubert de Givenchy. His fame quickly grew beyond Europe, particularly in Japan and the United States. Pierre-Yves Guillemot, a famous singer of the time, described Féraud's clothing as follows: "When you put on his oversized sweater and pants, you feel different. Thoughts become more colorful, and pleasant music plays in your head - it's as if you distance yourself from the things happening around you. Louis Féraud is the antithesis of fashion. He is a dispenser of happiness." Féraud himself admitted that his calling was to "create clothing in which women are particularly beautiful and attractive." He made the most famous women of that time feel this way, and they applauded at his shows. In 1970, Louis signed a contract with the German company "Fink" to create a "prêt-à-porter" (ready-to-wear) clothing collection. In 1978, he received the prestigious "Golden Thimble Award" for the spring/summer 1978 collection, repeating this success in 1984. In 1991, Louis Féraud was honored with the title of "Prince of the Art of Living" (Prince de l'Art de Vivre), and in 1995, he was awarded the Legion of Honor by the President of France. In 1999, the creator of the fashion house "Louis Féraud" passed away in Paris after several years of battling Alzheimer's disease. A few months before the master's death, his family sold the "Louis Féraud" brand to the Swiss group "Secon." In 2002, the "Escada" group acquired 90% of the shares of "Louis Féraud," and the talented designer Jean-Paul Knott was appointed as the creative director of the brand, but he left his position after a year. Today, the fashion house "Louis Féraud" has a large network of boutiques worldwide and continues the traditions of its founder, who dreamt of all girls being dressed beautifully.
