Luca Lanotte
Luca Lanotte is an Italian ice dancer who competes with Anna Cappellini.
Early Career and Rise to Prominence
Lanotte initially skated with Camilla Spelta and Camilla Pistrello at the junior level. In 2005, he partnered with Cappellini. They won the bronze medal at the 2006 Junior Grand Prix Final and became six-time Italian national champions from 2012 to 2017.
In 2014, Lanotte and Cappellini stunned the skating world by winning gold at both the World and European Championships. This was the first and only time they stood atop the podium at the World Championships.
Post-Olympic Season
After the 2013/2014 Olympic season, some speculated that the pair would retire. However, they continued to compete. In 2015, they began the new season with a first-place finish at the Lombardia Trophy and later triumphed at the Audi Cup of China Grand Prix stage. They finished second at the Moscow Grand Prix stage, securing their qualification for the Grand Prix Final, where they won their first medal. They also became five-time national champions in December.
Success in Leading Up to Pyeongchang
In the 2016/2017 season, Lanotte and Cappellini won at the Nebelhorn Trophy and placed fourth at the Skate Canada International Grand Prix stage. At the Grand Prix Final, they took home bronze medals. They again won the Italian national championships in December. At the European Championships in January, they set personal bests in the short program and overall score, earning a second-place finish. They placed sixth at the World Championships in March.
Final Olympic Season
In the 2017/2018 season, Lanotte and Cappellini began with a win at the Minsk Challenge "Challenger" series event. They took bronze at the NHK Trophy Grand Prix stage, improving their short dance personal best.
