Lucas Duplan is an American entrepreneur and programmer, best known as the founder of the company 'Clinkle'. After graduating from Stanford University, Duplan launched one of the most controversial and talked-about startups in recent years. 'Clinkle' aims to eliminate traditional money as a phenomenon, using a conventional electronic payment system. Despite not having a ready product, Duplan raised a total of $30 million in a relatively short period of time, with sponsorship from notable figures in the business world such as Richard Branson, Peter Thiel, and the 'Andreessen Horowitz' fund.

Duplan also assembled an impressive team of executives, including former Chief Financial Officer of Netflix, Barry McCarthy. However, not everyone in the technical community has a positive view of Duplan. Some bloggers criticize the atmosphere within his company and mock his marketing strategy, including an overly pompous promotional video. Nonetheless, Duplan remains unfazed by such criticism, believing that the most important factor is whether users appreciate and actively use his product.

Duplan founded 'Clinkle' in 2011, which quickly grew from a small student team to one of the largest projects in Silicon Valley. It is believed that Duplan became interested in mobile payment systems after studying in London. With the support of Stanford professor Mehran Sahami and a dozen other students, Duplan was able to launch the project. Initial tests were conducted at Stanford, and the product was deemed functional for users to easily pay for various services using their regular mobile phones.

Through Diane Greene, one of the founders of VMWare, Duplan met Jim Breyer, who discussed the promising program with Stanford professors and alumni and became genuinely interested. Breyer agreed to invest in Duplan's project during their first meeting, and soon other sponsors followed. As of June 2013, 'Clinkle' had raised $25 million from various investors, and the flow of funds did not stop there.

After the initial fundraising stage, Duplan and his company, which had grown to 50 employees, relocated from Palo Alto to San Francisco. In October 2013, former Chief Financial Officer of Netflix, Barry McCarthy, joined 'Clinkle' as its Chief Operating Officer, along with two other former Netflix employees who became Vice Presidents at 'Clinkle'. However, the company also experienced some restructuring, letting go of a quarter of its employees towards the end of the year.
