Biography of Lucia Lacarra
Early TrainingLucia Lacarra, a Spanish ballerina, knew from a young age that she was meant to be a dancer. At the age of ten, she enrolled in summer courses with Rosella Hightower, and later, she traveled to San Sebastian to train with Mentxu Medel. Medel prepared her for admission to Victor Ullate's school in Madrid. Within her second year of studying at Ullate's school, Lacarra was offered a contract with Victor Ullate Ballet.
Early Career
At the age of fifteen, Lacarra danced Balanchine's "Allegro Brillante." Over the course of four seasons, she went on to perform Balanchine's "Concerto Barocco," Fokine's "La Sylphide," and four works by Hans van Manen and Niels Christe. Additionally, she had the opportunity to dance four compositions by her teacher, Victor Ullate, who instilled the necessary self-confidence in her.
National Ballet of Marseille
In 1994, Lacarra joined the National Ballet of Marseille under Roland Petit as a principal soloist. She was entrusted with the role of Esmeralda in "Notre-Dame de Paris," partnering with Patrick Dupond. Over the next three years, she performed in seven ballets created by Petit, four of which were tailored to showcase her individuality. Her most notable performances included Angelique in "Leopard" and "Jeune Homme et la Mort" with Nicolas Le Riche.
San Francisco Ballet
In pursuit of ballet classicism, Lacarra decided to join the San Francisco Ballet under the artistic direction of Helgi Tomasson. She quickly danced leading roles in "Giselle," "Swan Lake," and "Sleeping Beauty," followed by several classical pas de deux. These performances solidified her reputation as a masterful dancer. Her repertoire expanded to include works by Robbins, Balanchine, Gsovsky, three ballets by Tomasson, Kenneth MacMillan, Hans van Manen, Nacho Duato, Roland Petit, and Lar Lubovitch.
Bavarian State Ballet
In the 2002-2003 season, Lacarra joined the Bavarian State Ballet in Munich, reuniting with European choreography. During her initial three months in Munich, she danced roles such as Raymonda, Tatiana, Odette-Odile, and three pas de deux in "In the Night," always alongside her longtime partner, Cyril Pierre, who was also a leading dancer in the company. Together, they embarked on numerous international tours, performing in renowned theaters worldwide.
