Biography of Lyudmila Yanukovych

Lyudmila Alexandrovna Yanukovych was born on October 9, 1949, in Yenakiyevo, Ukraine. Her father, Alexander Nastenko, came from a noble background, while her mother, Valentina Vasilyevna Davydova, was a lawyer. Due to her mother's deteriorating health and disability, the family moved to the village of Krasnogorovka, Donetsk region. Lyudmila was primarily raised by her mother, grandfather, and grandmother.

After completing her studies at Yenakiyevo School No. 1, Lyudmila graduated from the Makeevka Institute of Engineering and Construction. She worked as an engineer and specialist at the Enakievmetallurgstroy association and the Enakievo Metallurgical Plant.

Lyudmila Yanukovych first met Viktor Yanukovych in December 1969 while working at the Enakievo Metallurgical Plant. They got married in November 1971 and had two sons, Alexander and Viktor. They also have three grandchildren.

In 2004, Lyudmila Yanukovych gained prominence during the Orange Revolution. She participated in a rally in Donetsk, where she criticized the actions of supporters of Viktor Yushchenko, the leader of the opposition movement. After her husband's election as President of Ukraine, Lyudmila Yanukovych focused on charity work. She became the head of the charitable foundation "From the Heart to the Heart," which provides assistance to children's homes.

Currently, Lyudmila Yanukovych resides on the outskirts of Donetsk, in the elite Kalinkino-2 neighborhood. Despite her husband's political position, she has chosen to maintain her familiar way of life and has not become involved in the formal duties of the First Lady. In May 2010, she was admitted to the ranks of the Ukrainian intellectuals and aristocrats club called "Intelligent."

Lyudmila Yanukovych enjoys theater and singing. Her husband, Viktor Yanukovych, served as the President of Ukraine. Their sons, Alexander and Viktor, have pursued careers in business and politics respectively. Lyudmila Yanukovych continues to support various charitable causes and is involved in the construction of churches in the Donetsk region. She has been recognized for her contributions by being awarded the Order of St. Catherine by Metropolitan Illarion of Donetsk and Mariupol.
