Early Life and Education
Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova(née Stana Petrović-Njegoš) was born on December 23, 1868/January 4, 1869, in Cetinje, Montenegro, to Prince Nikola I Petrović-Njegoš and Milena Vukotić of Montenegro. Along with her sisters, Elena, Milica, and Marija, she was sent to the prestigious Smolny Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, to receive her education.
First Marriage
In 1889, upon King Nikola I's request, Stana married George Maximilianovich, 6th Duke of Leuchtenberg (1852-1912), a divorced widower with a son. The marriage was loveless, and the Duke spent much of his time in France, leaving Stana alone and unhappy. They had two children:

In 1906, after much pressure from her family and with the consent of her estranged husband, Stana divorced the Duke of Leuchtenberg. She married Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich of Russia (1856-1929) in 1907. The couple had no children.
Political Influence
Anastasia Nikolaevna and her sister, Milica, were known for their active political involvement. They were close to Tsar Nicholas II and his wife, Alexandra Feodorovna, and were believed to have influenced the couple's decision-making. The sisters were also involved in the occult and associated with controversial figures such as Grigory Rasputin.
Role in World War II
During World War II, Anastasia Nikolaevna and her husband evacuated to Crimea with the rest of the imperial family. In 1919, they were evacuated to Europe and eventually settled in Antibes, France.
Later Life and Death
Anastasia Nikolaevna lived in exile until her death on November 15, 1935, in Antibes. She was buried alongside her husband in the crypt of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Cannes.
