Luigi Apolloni
Early CareerBorn in Frosinone, Italy, on May 2, 1967, Luigi Apolloni embarked on his football career in 1983 with Serie C2 club Lodigiani. However, despite failing to make a first-team appearance, he soon moved to Pistoiese, where he spent two seasons.
Parma Success
After a year with Reggiana, Apolloni joined Parma in 1990. Alongside Lorenzo Minotti, he formed one of the most formidable central defensive pairings in European football. During his time at Parma, Apolloni won several major titles, including the UEFA Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup.
National Team
Apolloni made his international debut for Italy on May 27, 1994, against Finland. He earned a total of 15 caps and participated in both the 1994 World Cup and the 1996 European Championship.
Injuries and Retirement
From 1996 onwards, Apolloni suffered from a series of injuries that hindered his playing time at Parma. As a result, he moved to Verona in 1999, where he retired two years later, having made 255 Serie A appearances and scored 7 goals.
Managerial Career
Post-retirement, Apolloni transitioned into coaching. He managed Serie B clubs Modena and Grosseto, where he experienced mixed success.
