Luigi Bertolini: A Distinguished Italian Footballer and Coach

Born on the Ligurian coast in Busalla, Luigi Bertolini was an Italian footballer renowned for his exceptional skills as a half-back.

Early Career: From Savona to Alessandria

Bertolini's professional journey began in 1927 with Savona, where he initially played as a forward while balancing his athletic pursuits with work at a steel factory. Recognizing his talent, scouts from Alessandria, an ambitious yet financially constrained club, swiftly acquired his services.

National Triumph and Juventus Legacy

Bertolini's five seasons with Alessandria (1927-1931) showcased his consistent performance, ultimately earning him a place on the Italian national team. His international debut in 1929 was followed by a pinnacle of glory: Bertolini became a World Cup champion in 1934.

After the 1930/31 season, Bertolini joined Juventus, a club on the cusp of securing its long-awaited first Scudetto. Turin became Bertolini's home for the next six years, where he secured four consecutive Serie A titles (1931-1935).

Coaching Interlude and Legacy

Bertolini retired from playing in 1937 and briefly coached Rapallo. He later returned to serve as Juventus' head coach for a brief period in 1951/52. Despite taking charge of Brescia the following year, he resigned after a disappointing tenure.

Remembered as a consummate Italian footballer with a remarkable career, Luigi Bertolini left an indelible mark on the sport. His World Cup triumph with Italy and his success with Juventus cemented his status as a legend of his era.
