Lynn Schusterman: A Philanthropist and Businesswoman
Lynn Schusterman is an extraordinary woman who has dedicated her life to philanthropy and helping others. She is a well-known businesswoman and philanthropist who values the moral satisfaction that comes from giving back rather than personal gain. She also serves as the head of the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation.
Supporting Jewish Initiatives
Within the former Soviet Union, the Schusterman Foundation, led by Mrs. Schusterman, is renowned for its support in the development of "Hillels" in the Commonwealth of Independent States. However, one of its main projects is providing financial support to "Birthright Israel" or "Taglit" programs. These initiatives allow young Jews who have never been to Israel to visit their "historical homeland" for free.
A Life Dedicated to Philanthropy
When her husband Charles was alive, he assisted Lynn in organizing projects and trips. However, two years ago, he passed away, making her responsibilities much more challenging. Charles was an extraordinary person who continued to work, despite being diagnosed with leukemia. Although doctors believed he could have been saved if he focused on his treatment, Charles refused to step away from his work. Many believed that Lynn would give up after her husband's death, but instead, she began working with even more determination and energy.
Over the past five years, the Schusterman Foundation has allocated over 35 million dollars to various Jewish charitable projects, primarily focused on education and the study of traditions. Lynn believes that this is crucial, particularly in the present time. She emphasizes the need to bridge the significant gap in Jewish education caused by years of persecution and the Holocaust. Many individuals wish to reconnect with their roots and learn about the history of their people but do not know where to start or what books to read. Lynn believes it is essential to establish educational institutions and public organizations that can help individuals explore the history of their people.
A Vision for the Future
Currently, Lynn is working on a new project that will require a significant investment of resources. She aims to organize exchanges between different Jewish schools and yeshivas worldwide on a regular basis. This initiative will allow people to not only learn about how their peers from other countries live but also connect them with Jewish history. Lynn expresses her desire for young Jews to have the opportunity to visit major historical landmarks worldwide that they read about in books.
Lynn Schusterman's philanthropic efforts extend far beyond the projects mentioned here. She played a crucial role in establishing the organization Hillel, which brings Jews from around the world closer together and helps them feel a sense of belonging. Despite her involvement in numerous charitable endeavors, Lynn prefers to keep a low profile and grant few interviews. She believes that people should be known for their actions rather than their words and that her many obligations require her full attention. She states, "I am not a movie star appearing on the screen. If people need help, I will do everything in my power to assist them."
