Madat Guliyev: An Illustrious Career in National Security
Early Life and EducationMadat Guliyev was born on September 27, 1958, in Ganja, Azerbaijan. He completed his primary education at Ganja School No. 1 in 1965 and graduated from Ganja School No. 8 in 1975. In 1976, Guliyev enrolled in the Azerbaijan State Institute of Physical Culture.
Sports and Military Service
Guliyev excelled in sports, becoming a USSR master of judo in 1979. The following year, he was drafted into military service. In 1982, he joined the "Dynamo" sports society before beginning his career in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan.
Law Enforcement Career
On December 10, 1993, Guliyev distinguished himself in a confrontation with criminals, apprehending them despite being wounded. In 1994, he began working in the regional branch of the Organized Crime Control Department. His efforts led to the elimination of criminal gangs and racketeering groups.
National Heroism
Guliyev's bravery in neutralizing an armed criminal group earned him the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan in 1995.
Advancements in Law Enforcement
After graduating from the Police Academy of Azerbaijan in 1997, Guliyev held various leadership positions:
- Head of the Organized Crime Control Department (2001)
- Head of the Anti-Drug Department (2002)- Head of the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Azerbaijan (2004)
Leadership in the Ministry of Justice
Guliyev was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice and Head of the Penitentiary Service in 2011. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in 2012.
National Security Service
Guliyev became First Deputy Minister of National Security in 2015. In December of the same year, he was appointed Head of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan.
Recognition and Honors
- National Hero of Azerbaijan (1995)- Order "For Service to the Fatherland" 3rd degree (2014)
- Medal "For Impeccable Service in Internal Affairs" 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degrees
On September 26, 2018, Guliyev was promoted to the rank of Colonel General.
