Madeleine Stowe (born August 18, 1958) is an American actress. She was born in Eagle Rock, a working suburb of Los Angeles, to a Costa Rican immigrant mother, Mireya Mora, and an engineer father from Oregon, Robert Stowe.

As the oldest of three sisters, Stowe developed an interest in music from a young age and began taking piano lessons at the age of ten. Her teacher, Sergei Tarnovsky, a Russian immigrant, believed in her talent and continued to teach her even on his deathbed. However, at the age of eighteen, Stowe decided to pursue a different path and left music behind.

Stowe pursued higher education at the University of Southern California, where she studied cinema and journalism. While attending university, she also performed in the local theater, catching the attention of a talent agent. This led to a series of offers for roles in both film and television.

For nearly fifteen years, Stowe took on minor roles in films and television series. However, even during this time, her performances stood out. Audiences particularly enjoyed her roles in the films "Stakeout" alongside Richard Dreyfuss and "Revenge" alongside Kevin Costner.

In 1992, Stowe finally landed a leading role in the critically acclaimed film "The Last of the Mohicans," where she portrayed Cora Munro opposite Daniel Day-Lewis.
