Biography of Madison Keys

Madison Keys, an American tennis player, was born on February 17, 1995, in Rock Island, Illinois. She started playing tennis at a young age, primarily because she liked tennis dresses, according to an interview she gave to World Tennis Magazine in August 2011. She also admitted to being a fan of Roger Federer. Standing at 180 cm tall, Madison is right-handed with a two-handed backhand.

At the age of 14, on July 13, 2009, Madison became a member of the Philadelphia Freedoms team after defeating reigning Wimbledon champion Serena Williams in a singles match with a score of 5-1. As of now, her career prize money amounts to $114,827. She currently ranks 138th in the world (as of November 12, 2012) and has won three ITF titles.

Madison has been training under the United States Tennis Association (USTA). She began her professional career on February 17, 2009. In April of the same year, she received a wild card for the MPS Group Championships 2009, her first WTA tournament. She won her first-round match against Alla Kudryavtseva with a score of 6-4, 7-5 but lost to Nadia Petrova in the second round.
