Early Life and Career
Born in Luxembourg, Mady Delvaux-Stehres completed her studies at the Sorbonne in Paris and worked as a high school teacher in Luxembourg until 1989.
Political Activism and Rise
In 1974, she joined the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) and became heavily involved in its women's faction. In 1985, she was elected to the party's central committee.
Parliamentary Career
Elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1989, Delvaux-Stehres went on to serve multiple terms. She held various ministerial positions in Christian Socialist governments, including State Secretary for Health, Social Security, Youth, and Sports, Minister of Transport, and Minister of Communications and Social Security.
Minister of Education
In 2004, Delvaux-Stehres returned to government as Minister of Education. She held this position until 2013, overseeing significant reforms in the Luxembourgish education system.
European Parliament
In 2014, Delvaux-Stehres was elected as a Member of the European Parliament, leading the LSAP's electoral list. She serves on the Committee on Culture and the Monitoring Committee of the Council of Europe.
