Magdalena Valerio: A Spanish Jurist and Politician
Early Life and EducationMagdalena Valerio was born in Spain and pursued a law degree at the Complutense University of Madrid, graduating in 1985. She has resided in Guadalajara since 1989.
Local Government Roles
Valerio held various government positions in Guadalajara related to employment and social security. In 1999, she became a councilor for the Guadalajara City Council. In 2003, she was appointed Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Economy and Finance.
Regional Government Service
In 2005, Valerio was elected Regional Minister for Labor and Employment for the Government of Castilla-La Mancha. She later served as Regional Minister for Tourism and Crafts (2007) and Regional Minister for Public Administration and Justice (2008).
National Political Career
In 2007, Valerio was elected to the Castilla-La Mancha Parliament as a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). In 2008, she was appointed to the PSOE's Regional Executive Committee and became General Secretary of the PSOE's Guadalajara Municipal Executive Committee.
In the 2011 parliamentary elections, Valerio secured a seat in the Congress of Deputies, representing the electoral district of Guadalajara.
Ministerial Appointment
In June 2018, Magdalena Valerio was appointed Minister of Labor in the government of Pedro Sánchez. She served in this role until January 13, 2020.
