Biography of Magomed Abdusalamov

Magomed Abdusalamov is a Russian heavyweight boxer who has achieved great success in his professional career. He was born in Makhachkala, Dagestan and was raised in a strictly religious Muslim family. Recognizing the unstable environment in the country, Abdusalamov's father decided to introduce him to the sport of boxing as a means of keeping him away from a life of crime.

Abdusalamov quickly displayed exceptional athletic abilities and showed promise as a talented boxer. He gained recognition as an amateur boxer, winning convincing victories at the Russian Super Heavyweight Championship in 2005 and 2006. Despite his accomplishments, Abdusalamov remained overshadowed by the more famous and successful fighter, Islam Timurziev, and had limited opportunities to enter the international boxing scene.

In 2008, Abdusalamov participated in the Olympic qualifying competitions but was unable to advance due to a loss against English boxer David Price, who eventually won the bronze medal. In September 2012, Abdusalamov faced Jameel McCline in a tense fight, where he experienced his first knockdown. However, he managed to recover and turn the fight in his favor, eventually knocking McCline out in the second round. It was later revealed that Abdusalamov had entered the fight with a broken rib, but he managed to overcome the injury and secure the victory.

In March 2013, Abdusalamov faced Victor Bisbal and once again found himself in a challenging fight. After dominating the first two rounds, he knocked Bisbal out in the fifth round, earning him third place in the WBC rankings. Unfortunately, in November 2013, Abdusalamov suffered his first defeat against Cuban boxer Mike Perez, losing the fight by points. Despite his loss, Abdusalamov's ability to fight with a broken hand and a broken nose showed his resilience and determination.

Following the fight, Abdusalamov experienced severe headaches, which led to his hospitalization. Doctors discovered a blood clot in his brain and decided to induce him into an artificial coma to minimize the potential damage. Fortunately, the surgery was successful, and Abdusalamov's health is currently stable. He is expected to make a full recovery without any significant loss of motor coordination.

Abdusalamov's father, Magomed Magomedgadzhi, and his brother, Abdusalam, are currently with him in New York as he continues his recovery.
