Early Life and International Debut

Malika Mihambo was born on February 3, 1994, in Heidelberg, Germany. Her mother is German, while her father is Tanzanian from Zanzibar. In 2011, Mihambo made her international debut at the World Youth Championships in Lille, placing 9th in the long jump.

Success in Junior Competitions

Mihambo's rise to prominence began in 2013 when she won the European Junior Championships in Rieti. She continued her success in 2015 by claiming the European U23 Championships title in Tallinn.

European and Olympic Success

At the 2016 European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam, Mihambo earned a bronze medal. She made her Olympic debut at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, finishing 4th with a personal best of 6.95m. In 2021, Mihambo won a silver medal at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland.

Olympic Gold in Tokyo

The pinnacle of Mihambo's career came at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. In a thrilling final, she secured the gold medal with a jump of 7.00m on her last attempt. This victory made Mihambo Germany's first Olympic champion in the long jump since 1984.
