Yulimar Rojas: A Record-Breaking Venezuelan Athlete

Venezuelan track and field athlete Yulimar Rojas is a world record holder specializing in triple jump. She has also achieved international success in high jump and long jump.

Training and Family

Rojas currently resides in Madrid, where she trains under former long jumper Iván Pedroso. Her younger sister, Yerilda Zapata, is also an athlete, specializing in discus throw.

Record-Breaking Performances

Rojas holds the Venezuelan record in triple jump with a distance of 15.41 meters, the second-best in history. She also set the Venezuelan long jump record at 6.57 meters, which was surpassed by Yohanni Luque in 2017. In high jump, Rojas' personal best of 187 centimeters is only 3 centimeters short of the national record set by Mariurlys Rojas in 2008.

Olympic Success

Rojas is openly lesbian and is in a relationship with a woman. She won a silver medal in triple jump at the 2016 Olympic Games with a distance of 14.98 meters, marking Venezuela's first medal in women's track and field at the Olympics. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Rojas became the Olympic champion in triple jump. She broke the Olympic record in her first attempt and set a new world record in her last, a mark that had stood since 1995.

International Titles

In addition to her Olympic success, Rojas has won numerous international titles, including two outdoor World Championships in 2017 and 2019, two indoor World Championships in 2016 and 2018 in triple jump, and the 2015 South American Championships in triple jump. She was also the victor at the 2014 South American Games in high jump.
