Mark Drummond: A Post-Impressionist Pioneer
Early Life and EducationMark Drummond was born in Birmingham, England. He received his formal education at Oxford University before pursuing a career in real estate for a short period. In 1903, he enrolled at the Slade School of Fine Art, where he studied painting until 1907.
Slade School and Walter Sickert
Under the tutelage of Walter Sickert at the Westminster School of Art, Drummond's artistic style was profoundly influenced. Sickert's guidance shaped his approach to painting, which became evident in many of his works.
Camden Town Group and London Group
From 1911 to 1913, Drummond actively participated in the Camden Town Group, an influential group of artists. In 1914, he became a founding member of the London Group, where he remained a member until its dissolution in 1921.
Teaching and Later Life
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Drummond served as a painting instructor at the Westminster School of Art. Upon the passing of his wife, he relocated from London to his birthplace in Berkshire in 1931, where he continued to paint until his death.
