Marcel Halstenberg: A Versatile Defender

Early Career

Marcel Halstenberg began his football journey at a youth academy in Grasdorf, Germany. In 1996, he joined Hannover 96's youth system, where he progressed through their U17 and U19 Bundesliga teams.

Professional Debut

Halstenberg was promoted to Hannover's reserve team in 2010 and made his professional debut in November 2010 against Holstein Kiel. Due to Hannover's financial struggles, he moved to Borussia Dortmund II in 2011.

Regionalliga Success

In his first season at Dortmund II, Halstenberg established himself as a regular right-back, helping the team secure promotion to the third-tier 3. Liga. He impressed with three goals in 36 appearances the following season.

St. Pauli and Leipzig

Halstenberg signed for St. Pauli in 2013 and became a vital part of their defense. He joined RB Leipzig in 2015, forming a strong partnership with Willi Orban at center-back. Together, they helped Leipzig achieve promotion to the Bundesliga in 2016.

Bundesliga Debut

Halstenberg made his Bundesliga debut for Leipzig in August 2016, playing the full 90 minutes against Hoffenheim. Since then, he has been a consistent performer at the highest level, known for his versatility and defensive solidity.
