Biography of Marco Caria

Marco Caria is an Italian opera singer and baritone. He was born in Sardinia and received his education at the Conservatorio di Sassari. Later, he was awarded a scholarship to further his studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.

Caria quickly established a reputation as a young talent, winning several international singing competitions. In 2004, he received a special prize from the jury at the Tito Gobbi competition and the Luciano Neroni prize. Despite his success, Caria continued his education and became a student of the renowned Italian soprano Mirella Freni in 2005.

In November 2005, Caria received a special prize at the 20th International Singing Competition "Iris Adami Corradetti" and later received another scholarship. He continued to win major competitions even after transitioning to the professional level. In June 2007, Caria won two prizes at the Operalia, the international vocal competition named after Placido Domingo. Interestingly, the jury awarded him third place while the audience gave him the first prize.

In January 2008, Caria won the Emmerich Smola Award in Landau, Germany. The following season marked his debut in North America, where he performed the role of Don Carlo in Verdi's "La Forza del Destino" under the baton of James Conlon. In the following season, he appeared at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, performing in Ruggero Leoncavallo's "I Pagliacci". A year later, during the 2009-2010 season, Caria performed at the Washington National Opera in the production of "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" (The Barber of Seville).

Currently, Marco Caria resides in the Italian commune of Vignola, Italy.
