Biography of Marcus Antonio Aparecido Cipriano
Marcus Antonio Aparecido Cipriano, commonly known as Marcao, is a Brazilian football player who played as a forward.
Early Career
Marcao began his career at the club "Juventus" in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He then played for the club "Matsubara", where he showcased his high scoring ability with 8 goals in 15 matches in the state championship. He also had a successful stint with the Uruguayan club "Montevideo Wanderers", scoring 9 goals in 13 games in 1993.
Club Career
Marcao went on to play for various clubs including "Sport Recife", "Arasatuba", and the Mexican club "Toluca". In 1994, he briefly returned to "Matsubara" before moving to Italy to play for "Torino". However, he had limited opportunities with the Turin team, appearing in only 4 games.
After his season in Italy, Marcao returned to Brazil and joined the club "Mogi Mirim", where he became a silver medalist in the Sao Paulo state championship in his first year. He then played for "Mirassol" before moving to Moscow to play for "Spartak" in 2000.
During his time with "Spartak", Marcao played 24 matches and scored 7 goals, including 4 goals in the UEFA Champions League. He scored his first goal for "Spartak" with a spectacular scissor kick in a cup match against "Lada". He also scored 2 goals against "Arsenal" in the Champions League. However, his performance declined over time, and he found himself sitting on the bench more often.
In 2001, Marcao transferred to the German club "St. Pauli" for 1.4 million marks. Unfortunately, he was unable to help the team avoid relegation to the second division, partly due to injuries. In the second division, Marcao struggled to secure a place in the starting lineup and only played 5 matches.
After his time in Germany, Marcao moved to the club "Bahia" in Brazil, who paid 600,000 euros for his transfer. He then played for "Guarani" in Campinas and the Swiss club "Yverdon". He later played for "Nacional Rolândia" and "Portuguesa Londrinense". In January 2009, Marcao decided to retire from professional football.
