Maria Canals-Barrera is an American actress and singer who may not be the most well-known among American actresses, but fans of Disney TV shows and movies know her well. Born in Miami, Florida, Maria began taking acting lessons in school. She is well-known to theater enthusiasts in Miami and Los Angeles, but her talents extend beyond just the stage.

In 1993, Maria made her television debut in the series "Key West." She then went on to portray a prostitute in the WB series "Popular." Some of her notable film roles include "America's Sweethearts" and "The Master of Disguise," but true stardom was still a ways off.

Voice Acting Success

Maria achieved considerable success in voice acting. American comic book fans recognize her as the voice of Hawkgirl in Bruce Timm's animated series "Justice League" and "Justice League Unlimited." She also lent her voice to the character Shelly Sandoval in the animated series "Static Shock" and voiced Paulina, the love interest of the main character, in "Danny Phantom." In the popular computer game "Grim Fandango" released in 1998, Maria voiced the character Mercedes "Meche" Colomar.
