Education and Academic Career
Maria Chiara Carrozzais an Italian scientist and politician. She graduated with a degree in physics from the University of Pisa in 1990, followed by a doctorate in engineering from the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in 1994. In 2006, she became a full professor of bioengineering and robotics at the same institution. She has held various leadership positions at Sant'Anna, including head of its research unit and coordinator of the Robotics Art Laboratory.
Research and Collaboration
Carrozza has been a visiting professor at the Vienna University of Technology, where she taught bio-mechatronics. She has participated in the scientific direction of the Joint Italian-Japanese Laboratory for Humanoid Robotics at Waseda University in Tokyo and has served as a visiting professor at Zhejiang University. She has also been involved in the National Group for Bioengineering.
Political Engagement
Democratic Party Involvement:In 2009, Carrozza was appointed president of the "Forum of Universities, Knowledge, and Research" of the Democratic Party at the request of Pier Luigi Bersani. She later headed the Democratic Party's list in Tuscany for the February 2013 parliamentary elections and resigned as rector of Sant'Anna after being elected.
Minister of Education:On April 28, 2013, she was appointed Minister of Education, Universities, and Research in the Letta government. She held this position until the formation of the Renzi government on February 22, 2014.
Post-Governmental Career
In January 2018, Carrozza was announced as the scientific director of the Fondazione Don Gnocchi, a non-profit organization focused on healthcare and rehabilitation.
