Biography of Maria Jose Alvarado
Maria Jose Alvarado is a 19-year-old model, contestant and winner of the Miss Honduras beauty pageant. She is currently studying International Relations at university and actively participates in sports. Maria was scheduled to travel to London in November 2014 to participate in the Miss World 2014 competition, but she went missing along with her sister after attending a party in their hometown of Santa Barbara, Honduras.
The Disappearance
On November 13, Maria and her sister Sofia disappeared after getting into a car following a party in Santa Barbara. Their whereabouts have been unknown since then. The incident occurred shortly before Maria was supposed to compete in the Miss World competition in London. Despite the preparations for the pageant already underway, the focus has shifted to finding the missing sisters safe and unharmed.
Police Investigation
The police have arrested four suspects, including the party host and Sofia's boyfriend, although they believe that the disappearance might not be a criminal act. The public in Honduras, however, is deeply concerned. Santa Barbara, located just 30 kilometers away from the crime-ridden city of San Pedro Sula, is known for its high crime rates. San Pedro Sula is even referred to as the "crime capital of the world", with an average of 169 homicides per 100,000 residents each year.

As the people of Honduras anxiously wait for any positive news about Maria's whereabouts, the organizers of the Miss World competition in London are preparing for the grand finale. Meanwhile, the police continue to search for any clues or evidence that could lead them to the sisters. Maria, who describes herself as an aspiring diplomat and enjoys playing football and volleyball in her free time, had won the Miss Honduras title in April 2014, beating 18 other contestants.
