Early Life and Education
Maria Levin, a German singer of Russian descent, was born on June 7, 1984, in Tbilisi, Georgia, to parents who were musicians. From the age of five, she studied at a music school.
Moscow and Musical Roots
In 1991, Levin and her family moved to Moscow, her father's homeland, where she continued her musical education. From the age of 14, she took singing lessons and performed in a school ensemble. After graduating high school, she studied for two years at the Moscow Institute of Contemporary Art.
Move to Germany and Academic Success
In 2004, Levin relocated to Germany. She pursued higher education at the University of Münster, earning a master's degree in 2010.
Collaboration and Debut Album
In the same year, she met Hamburg-based producer Ivo Moring. Together, they crafted four songs that culminated in their debut album, "Schwarz auf Weiß" ("Black on White"), released in 2012. Levin received the smago! Award at the "Debutant of the Year" competition.
Sophomore Album and Chart Success
In September 2014, Levin released her second album, "Maria Levin," featuring original music and lyrics. Its lead single, "Ein neuer Himmel" ("A New Sky"), charted at number 9 in Germany.
