Born in 1896 into a Polish-Jewish family, Maria Orska (née Rachel Blindemann) grew up with a strong command of Polish, German, and Russian languages.
Career Breakthrough
Prior to World War I, Orska relocated to Warsaw and subsequently to Berlin in 1915. In Berlin, she collaborated with renowned theater director Max Reinhardt. Her popularity skyrocketed, leading to a successful film career in Central Europe.
Marriage and Divorce
In 1920, Orska married Hans von Bleichröder, a wealthy Jewish banker significantly older than herself. She assumed the title of Baroness von Bleichröder, but their marriage ended in divorce in 1925.
Height of Fame and Personal Struggles
Throughout the 1920s, Orska's star continued to rise. Her image graced magazine covers and postcards, making her an icon of the era. However, rumors of her morphine addiction emerged, which is believed to have cast a shadow over her later years.
Tragic End
In 1930, Maria Orska tragically took her own life in Vienna. The exact circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, but it is believed that her morphine addiction played a significant role.
